SOS India joins ‘Hausla 2017’ and ‘Delhi for Children’ to highlight significance of Children’s Day

TODAY EXPRESS NEWS ( AJAY VERMA )New Delhi, November 15, 2017:  SOS Children’s Villages of India (SOS India), India’s only Group Foster Care institution, is joining the Central Government and Delhi Government to highlight significance of Children’s Day. Children from SOS India will be participating in Bal Sansad, skit, painting competition, athletic events, speeches, dance and street art.

Anuja Bansal, ‎Secretary General, SOS Children’s Villages of India, said, “India is home to 20 million parentless and abandoned children, and opportunities like Children’s day allows us to highlight their urgent need for acceptance and support to society. SOS Children’s Villages India is committed to securing the future of parentless and abandoned children, and to this effect, we recently launched the #My3rdChild campaign to encourage the more fortunate families and individuals among us, to share a portion of the warmth and joys of their family, by financially supporting a child.”

‘Hausla 2017’, an initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, started today with the national Children’s Day, and will conclude on November 20, 2017, the International Child Rights Day. The programme is funded under Integrated Child Protection Scheme.

 ‘Delhi for Children’ is a Delhi Government initiative and will be spread across 166 locations with activities, including sports and arts, and cultural programmes for children. Besides SOS India, other NGOs, residents’ welfare associations and market associations are expected to participate in the event.

SOS India has been involved in providing children in distress a ‘home-like’ environment with a loving mother, brothers and sisters, as well as a home and a community. The mission of the SOS Children’s Villages of India is to build families for children without parental care so that they grow up with love, respect & security.

Celebrations will also include activities at 32 SOS India villages, as it has kicked off its own annual festival – SOS Tarang – to mark Children’s Week. A series of regional and zonal level competitions and activities are being organised at SOS Projects, which will provide the children, a platform to showcase their talent in the field of sports, art and culture. The festival marks appreciation for the outstanding skills and abilities that the children SOS Project encompass and to inculcate confidence in children. The series of events will culminate on November 20, 2017, with the grand finale of SOS Festival, at New Delhi.
